As I sit down to write my second blog in the fortnight gone by, I can't help but share an interesting anecdote which came as a result of round the clock promotion for 'Jannat'.
During an interview, this journalist opens up the conversation with a question - "Emmy, why don't we see any 'controversy' building up for 'Jannat'? After all the film's release is just about a fortnight away."
I asked him why we needed any controversy at all when the subject in itself is exciting enough. He replied, "We normally do see a film coming from the house of Bhatts with it's own set of controversies to build upon. Why should 'Jannat' be any different? After all it has cricket has it's theme."
Exactly the point. Cricket. A sport which in spite being shrouded by controversies at regular intervals still stands tall and entertains millions of viewers across globe. For a sport which is followed so closely all over, we never wanted any controversial elements to come in. At the least, not when it came to the film's promotion!
Yes, there are controversies which Kunal Deshmukh, Bhatt saab and others associated with conceptualizing 'Jannat' have brought out in open...explored them well. However, all of this is in the film's script though not in the promotion. Why to 'create' any controversies when there aren't any?
Seriously, 'Jannat' is subject which everyone is so much in love with that last thing we want is any controversy - genuine, fabricated or orchestrated!
A few backs back, there were talks about how Censors were not too pleased about a dialogue in the film which spoke of cricketers and prostitutes in the same light. It wasn't difficult to milk this issue to death, but did we? No, we let the issue to pass by because we want our audience to know about the 'real' movie than things like this! Ditto for the talk around the rift between Siddhu and me!
One also has to see how the film's director wants to present his subject to the audience. And for someone like Kunal who is a huge fan of cricket, one can't imagine him being party to any controversy. He loves the subject. He has done a hell lot of a research for the film. He has made sure that he gets his facts right before presenting anything on screen.
He loves cricket so much that he would hate it if any false information surrounds the film, both on the screen or off it. He is not trying to paint a glamorized picture for the film. He is not even trying to show how corrupted the world of cricket.
He is just trying to say - 'Cricket mein aisa hi hota hai. Aur jo sab dikhta hai, usme kuch sach hota hai, aur kuch jhooth bhi!'
This is what the story he wants to tell and this is the way he wants 'Jannat' to be sold to his audience.
Of course that's the reason why he would be mad if the film is sold on my kisses...or the lack of them! ;-) |

| The Bhatt camp is known to have given the film industry many stars but the one who stands out among the current lot is none other than ‘Serial-Kisser’ Emraan Hashmi. He may not have had your typical chocolate boy looks but he did have the girls screaming for him as he made love to Mallika Sherawat in the smash hit Murder. He is also probably one of the few lucky actors whose songs become chartbusters irrespective of the fate of his films. This ‘Bad-Boy’ of Bollywood Ne Apni Adaaon Se Sabko Apna Aashiq Bana Diya. Currently looking forward to his new films like Jannat and Raaz 2,Bollywood Hungama brings you a chance to interact with Emraan Hashmi through his blog. So don’t miss this chance to read about Emraan Hashmi’s views on films and everything else under the sky, only on your favorite Bollywood website BollywoodHungama.com |
