Shahrukh Khan is coming to woo your hearts in the holiday season of this summer with Farah Khan’s highly ambitious debut venture Main Hoon Na. With the movie due to release on April 30, IndiaFM brings you some interesting factoids on the film.
- When Farah Khan started with her debut film, it was named The Outsider. But while working on the script with Abbas Tyrewala (of Munnabhai MBBS fame) they subsequently came upon with ‘Main Hoon Na’. And though Shahrukh and her brother Sajid didn’t approve of this new title, she stuck to her decision.
- Hrithik Roshan was the original choice for Shahrukh’s younger brother in the film. He even shot for a day for the film but things didn't materialize later on. After Hrithik’s exit, Sohail Khan and even Dil Chahta Hai director Farhan Akhtar were considered for the role. But finally the role went over to his brother-in-law Zayed Khan.
- Kamal Hassan and Nana Patekar were originally considered to play the negative lead of Main Hoon Na. Even Naseeruddin Shah was thought of but finally Suniel Shetty bagged the role. Naseeruddin opted to play Shahrukh’s father and an army officer in the film.
- Once again offbeat actors like Om Puri and Pankuj Kapoor were considered for the role of a comic principal but Boman Irani was finally roped in.
- For the female lead opposite Zayed Khan, Farah was in search of a bubbly girl to play a tomboyish character of a college student. At that time Farah spotted Amrita Rao, not in any of her films but in a Bru commercial. Amrita had to audition for the role. Farah wanted her to enact three scenes for the audition. But she was satisfied with her performance after the first scene and the rest were skipped.
- While Farah Khan was working with Sushmita on the 'Mehboob Mere' song in Fiza, she developed such a warm rapport with Sushmita that she promised her that whenever she made her first film, it would star her for sure. And Farah proved she is a woman of her words.
- Farah chose her assistant to break the auspicious coconut for the mahurat shot. And the mahurat shot of Main Hoon Na was picturized as just an ordinary crowd scene with none of the stars featuring in the shot.
- During the making, the weather in Darjeeling was unpredictable and for days shooting was called off. But while shooting for the title song, the weather cleared up. The title song of the film is SRK's favorite track from the film.
- Farah Khan confesses that her principal source of musical inspiration is the great Punchamda. She has attempted her best to impart a nostalgic touch of R.D.Burman's vintage tunes to the music of Main Hoon Na by strictly instructing musician Anu Malik to follow Pancham's footsteps (something at which Anu is at complete ease). Farah also confesses that many a situations in her film are inspired from Burman's music.
- The song 'Chale Jaise Hawaien' is a one shot song. Amrita Rao and Zayed Khan rehearsed for months to get their steps right. The song is canned in one shoot with a steadycam and they got it right in five takes.
- The song ‘Hey Yeh Fizayen’ features each and every crew member of the film in it. The idea was derived from ‘Bombay Dreams’, which had each crew member coming on stage.
- If the buzz is to be believed, Farah Khan's close buddy – director Karan Johar, will also make an appearance in the film, though his part is said to be a blink-it-and-disappear role.
