By IndiaFM News Bureau, May 18, 2004 - 07:47 IST
Karisma is playing a negative role in Suneel Darshan's Mere Jeevan Saathi. Karisma plays Natasha, who is the owner of a music company and in love with Akshay Kumar. In an interview to IndiaFM at Audeus studios at Andheri, Karisma talks about her role in the movie & her marriage experience.
You are working with Suneel Darshan again. It's obvious that you are playing the central character. Tell us how significant is your role in the movie?
My character in the movie is very much human with shades of gray. It's a very different character because it clearly portrays the expressions of those emotions that we go through in our day-to-day lives. It's a very significant character and not influenced by so good-so sweet attitude that we normally play in other movies. At the same time it's a very complete character with very interesting dramatic scenes and a very glamorous image. I have been lucky enough once again to play such an interesting character.
In Mere Jeevan Saathi, Amisha Patel plays the fianc?of Akshay Kumar. So what is your role in the movie? Is it the character of other woman? Please comment.
Basically I think you'll understand my character only after watching the film. I will not reveal much about the character because it's a bold character that shall totally surprise the audience. It's actually the USP of the film and will make the audiences wonder whether such things do happen in real life. The film in a certain way is timed very well because our audience today seems to be open to something new and different. My character in the movie is very unusual, something that our audiences demand. I really hope that the audiences enjoy while watching this movie.
Can we compare the film to be very much similar to Zubeida?
No. It's very different from Zubeida and Dil To Pagal Hai. The character has been given a different treatment, which certainly brings out so much freshness that even we enjoyed while working in this movie. I have already worked with Suneel before in three movies and fortunately all three proved to be hits. This is my fourth film with Suneel Darshan. As a director he seems to be so charged about my character that it really inspires me to give my best shot. The complete involvement of a director really lends the character a very interesting look.
You have already worked with Akshay before. Tell us something about the changes you must have observed in him as a person and as an actor.
I think Akshay has also grown tremendously.
You and Akshay Kumar had worked together for a certain camp. What do you feel about such trends coming up in the industry?
Please don't ask me such type of questions.
How do you co-ordinate your serials with your movies?
Acting in a serial is indeed a tough job and very different from acting in a movie. For any artist, it is a totally different dimension with lengthy dialogues and many scenes that require a lot of costume changing in a single day. That's just because serials run faster as compared to movies. Indeed it is a difficult but challenging job for me because after working for 13 years in this industry, I have been offered something very new and different through T.V serials. I received the offer to join television at the right time, especially when T.V is considered to be a large medium of entertainment drawing audiences to such a huge extent that audiences need to be literally pushed to theatres to watch the film. My character in my serial covers different shades and is not at all a typical Saas-Bahu types. I am playing an old lady, a middle-aged woman and also a very young granddaughter of myself.
Do you think that playing a character role in serial would affect your youth audience?
No. Not at all. Nowadays the audience does not differentiate. In fact the topmost actors in the industry are the ones who started their journey with television and finally reached the stardom. It does not matter to the audience whether their favorite artist is performing in a serial or a small budget film or a big budget film as far as they really appreciate their work and enjoy watching them.
You had also accepted an advertisement offer recently. Are you open to advertisements and movies even after your marriage?
Yes .Of course. I am open to all… be it serials, advertisements or movies. Obviously after my marriage people think that I have reduced my work and am no longer accepting any offers. There's nothing like that. Actually, the serial occupies 10-15 days in a month and the remaining days turn out to be pretty hectic for movies. I will only accept an offer that promises me something very nice and interesting. The audience has a certain expectation from you after a certain amount of time. They expect Karisma to perform something new and challenging. At this stage perhaps my acceptance to do ten typical films with just few short scenes and three four songs will not be appreciated by my audience. I am definitely looking forward to good scripts and nice roles. And will readily accept any role that would seem appealing to me.
What changes do you observe in yourself after marriage?
Marriage is a beautiful thing and everyone should experience it .As far as I am concerned there's simply no change at all. Throughout my career I have been the same person who has been very professional and sincere in whatever she has undertaken and will continue to be the same in future. Be it any situation, I have always tried to give my hundred percent.
