“I love girls who can ride bikes!” - Uday Chopra
By IndiaFM News Bureau, August 27, 2004 - 03:13 IST
Earlier seen in Supari and Charas, Dhoom captures Uday on a pair of hot wheels. He plays the role of Ali, a cool rider. The Chopra boy talks to IndiaFM about the his second project with director Sanjay Gadhvi and the fun times he had filming the movie.
Yash Chopra is widely known as the King of romance. An out-and-out action from the Yash Raj banner is a huge surprise. Comment.
Like everything else, Yash Raj too has to change. We are slated for bigger things. Also there are many other people working for us, so we have different inputs too. Sanjay Gadhvi identifies with a film like Dhoom, and that's the reason we are doing it. And this is the look of things to come for Yash Raj, and it starts with Dhoom.
You worked in Sanjay's debut Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai, a feel good film. Dhoom is an action film. How has been the experience?
It's been great. There is a level of comfort and we are in complete sync. Sanjay used to tell me that he never had to direct me, per se. I guess that was the carry-over from Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai.
What is your character in Dhoom?
I play Ali, a bike mechanic in the film. He owns a garage and races bikes. He is this cool, fun loving guy who believes in having a blast.
Esha plays your leading lady. How was it working with her?
She's a complete sweetheart. Being the youngest, we used to call her bachcha. She was totally pampered. Also, since the film required her to do stunts, we were quite protective and concerned for her.
Uday, boys look good on bikes, what about girls?
Girls look even better. Any girl who can ride a bike, has me!
You specially learnt biking for the film? How was the training?
That's right. I am not familiar with professional biking because of which I had to learn it. And considering the action involved, it came in as good help.
The film has two versions of Dhoom Machale, which is the track that you like best?
Both sound great. I love both.
Future projects…
[Smiles] Currently I am unemployed. I want to see how people react to my performance in Dhoom and will take it from there.
