"I bullied Vivek a lot!" - Samir Karnik

The director of Kyun! Ho Gaya Na is all smiles. And why not, the movie is his directorial debut and has the Rai-Oberoi pair, popular music and an eager audience. Pleased with the audience turnout at the event at InOrbit mall, Samir Karnik's a happy man.
Why the title Kyun! Ho Gaya Na?
That's simple. See, I am terrified of titles with ‘Pyar', ‘Ishq', Mohabbat'. So we consciously avoided it. The plot has attitude, energy, and masti to offer its audience. That's the reason we chose a fun title. So, now the title of film totally complements the subject.
What is the basic plot?
Two characters, Dia [Ash] and Arjun [Vivek] drive the plot. While Dia believes that love is a must for marriage. Arjun insists that arranged marriage will see him good. The plot traces how these contrasting characters meet, become friends and fall in love. To see what happens next…you got to watch the flick!
What genre does Kyun! Ho Gaya Na belong to?
I will bracket Kyun! Ho Gaya Na as a love story for sure. However, the characters in the movie induce humor into the script. So that makes for some very interesting moments in the narrative.
Vivek's a close friend. So, did you take advantage of that, bullying work out of him?
[Chuckles] Absolutely. Maine toh pura fayda uthaya. (I took full advantage). Shooting used to happen from 7 in the morning to 11 in the night. There were days, when we used to force a 24-hour work schedule. But jokes apart, both Vivek and Ash co-operated willingly.
What about Vivek. Did he try to misuse the freedom?
Though the atmosphere was informal, he not once abused the actor-director equation. Professionalism was never compromised on and work was never hurt.
Where is the movie shot?
The movie has been shot over 4 locales. Mumbai, Scotland, Goa and Coorg.
The music apparently has become quite popular. Tell us about it.
Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy have scored the music. It has 6 themes, each suiting a different mood and situation in the plot. The soundtrack is fabulous. I am glad that the music sale is impressive.
Are you very aggressive with promotions?
See, I understand promotions at the elementary level. Aap jaise yehan aaye, Ash aur Vivek ko dekhne. Aap jakar kahenge ki maine in stars ko dekha. Isse awareness ho jaati hain. This to me is promotion. And yes I am definitely open to promoting films in different ways to reach out to the audiences.
Close-up finds an in-film placement in the movie. Comment.
No. That I won't agree to. It's not an in-film placement. But more of a corporate tie-up, which I am happy about. These associations help both the corporate and the movie industry to work in conjecture.
