“To have Shahrukh work for you is an absolute dream!” the mild director tells us. We are in conversation with Amol Palekar and his folk feast this Friday, Paheli. Now that the film is releasing, what is the fondest memory he carries home? “Well, the entire experience has been overwhelming!” he gushes. “But there is one particular thing that I hold very dear, there is this particular incident that I did like to share” he says good-natured.
“See, Paheli is the kind of film which demands a lot of special effects but I wasn't happy with the kind of effects that the market has to offer. After all, a folktale cannot do with effects that look plasticy, tacky and shiny, it has to blend in with the folk flavor of the narrative” he explains us.
“When Shahrukh came to know about what was bothering me, he promptly came up and discussed it. Once he understood what is it that I was looking for, he asked me to give him some time. Within 2 hours, he calls me and informs that he has arranged for 2 foreign technicians to come down and deliver exactly what I had envisioned. And before I knew, we were at his office discussing with the two gentlemen intricacies of the technique. And by the tail of the meeting, I was absolutely convinced that they would reproduce my vision for Paheli” he recounts.
“And now when I see Paheli, I am so reminded of the faith that Shahrukh invested in my vision and how he went all out of his way to see that my idea was executed to the best. Shahrukh has been truly wonderful!” he reminisces.
