First look on Aishwarya’s Umrao Jaan

This is a still from J.P. Dutta’s upcoming film Umrao Jaan. The film that stars Aishwarya Rai in lead seems to be inspired by the 1981 hit with same title. The original Umrao Jaan which had Rekha play the role of a singer/ dancer who sells her body was mainly an Urdu film. The film had a ‘Nawabi’ touch which also seems to be the case in this Aishwarya Rai starrer. J.P. Dutta however claims that the film isn’t a remake of the old Umrao Jaan but is based on the story which was written long back by his father O.P. Dutta.
Umrao Jaan will mark J.P.Dutta’s comeback after LOC Kargil which didn’t do very well at the Box Office. Umrao Jaan is his complete fresh project, considering his last three films being based on war. This film possibly will have the artistic touch, considering the look of the old Umrao Jaan. Abhishek Bachchan will be seen in the lead role opposite Aishwarya Rai. The film also stars Shabana Azmi, Sunil Shetty, Arshad Warsi and Kulbhushan Kharbanda.
