Celebrating my kids: Farhan Akhtar

For Farhan Akhtar, nothing compares to the joy of watching his two daughters growing up together
"If you had asked me this question last year, I'd have named just one event as my greatest celebration. Now there are two. Watching both my daughters come into this world has been the greatest event of my life. And now of course, the whole process of seeing them grow older, surveying their evolution from the tiniest bundle of joy to a larger human being…. nothing compares with that joy.
"Fortunately, I've been at home all these months since my younger daughter was born. Akira came after Don was completed. So I've had lots of time to spend at home. But when the older one Shakya was born, I was just a week into the shooting of my first film Dil Chahta Hai. So you can imagine my nervousness, excitement and anxiety. I had to focus completely on the film, more so because it was my first. At the same time, I was constantly eager to get home to be with my wife and daughter.
"Was the birth of my first child and film almost simultaneous? You could say that. The making of a film is quite like the birth of a child. You also nurture a film to its birth. But at the end of the day, a film is a film. And you do have a second chance and a third…to improve on what might go wrong. With a child, you only get one chance. And you can't afford to goof up. There are so many things that could go wrong with a child's upbringing. God forbid, if he or she is in some way incapacitated. Blessed are those parents whose children are born and brought up whole and healthy. For me, every minute with my two daughters is a celebration."
