"Anurag should be careful of admirers" - Sudhir Mishra Click here to add this article to My Clips

By Faridoon Shahryar, October 29, 2007 - 17:45 IST

“You can’t say that today you don’t give me a good review then you’re a bad critic and when you give me a good review you are a good critic. Either you are not affected at all, but if you are reacting then you are affected. I would give Anurag (Kashyap) an advice that he should not react too much,” says renowned filmmaker Sudhir Mishra about close associate Anurag Kashyap who has sharply reacted to bad reviews of No Smoking in his blog at passionforcinema.

“If I am also writing on a blog on passionforcinema and criticizing a lot of things so today if I make a bad film or what people think is a bad film, then people would react a bit more to me than to others.” But Anurag feels that a certain critic has reviewed him rather than reviewing the film. “I think critics should review the film and not Anurag.” What are your personal thoughts about him? “I love Anurag. I think Black Friday is an outstanding film. I haven’t seen No Smoking but I saw a few rushes and I thought the attempt was quite marvelous. I’m a great admirer of Anurag. He has a long way to go. He is a brilliant boy but he should be careful of his admirers. You have to take care of your enemies but you also have to take care of your admirers, the fanatics. Don’t get carried away and relax.”

Alright, how about letting us know something about Tera Kya Hoga Johnny…unconventional title…any relations with Johnny Gaddar….what is it about? “Tera Kya Hoga Johnny is not a genre film. It’s not a thriller. It’s a black comedy. Johnny is a street boy who sells coffee on roads. Three people who they feel are fortunate than him wonder what will happen of Johnny, while Johnny thinks what will happen of these three, for he feels if they make it, then he will make it too. These three people are played by Parvez (Neil Nitin Mukesh), Preeti (Soha Ali Khan) and Vishal (Karan Nath).”

Your next release Khoya Khoya Chand is about lives of film stars in 1950s and 60s. There’s a buzz it has references to Guru Dutt’s personal life. “I admire and love Guru Dutt too much but no, I’m not making a peep show. I’m just saying that around the time when all these greats like Guru Dutt, Sahir Ludhyanvi, Raj Kapoor sahib, Dev sahib, Yusuf sahib were around, my characters were there too. It’s about the essence of that time.”

Check out the complete interview with Sudhir Mishra tomorrow on IndiaFM (Broadband) where he shares a few startling facts about movies and lots more.
