"Don't confuse Mithya with Bheja Fry" - Ranvir Shorey Click here to add this article to My Clips

By Joginder Tuteja, February 15, 2008 - 12:43 IST

Ranvir Shorey is happy to be lauded for his career best performance in Mithya but is livid that a section of audience was expecting yet another Bheja Fry from the film.

"Perhaps that's what you call the burden of success", signs Ranvir, "So huge was Bheja Fry and such strong have been the memories of the film that people expect a comic outing from Mithya just because it comes from the same team." Mithya includes Rajat Kapoor, Vinay Pathak and Ranvir Shorey, people who were also responsible for the success of Bheja Fry.

"See, Mithya is not a comic film. It's a dramatic thriller with tragic overtones. It does make you laugh for a good part of the narrative but it is not a comedy per se. Instead there are situations that the protagonist finds himself trapped in which brings the humor on", explains Ranvir. What are the reactions he is hearing from the audience? "Of course, regardless of the mention of Bheja Fry or the unfair parallels being drawn, not one person has said that he/she didn't like the film. They are unanimous in confessing that they have found themselves in the state of being stunned."

Media has also hailed the project all over. In fact, after Taare Zameen Par, Mithya has turned out to be most positively reviewed film all over. What does he have to say about that? "Isn't it wonderful", exclaims Ranvir, "All this while the film was traveling in festivals and we were happy with the kind of critical acclaim it was getting all over. Now as it has arrived mainstream, media as well as masses are appreciating it. It is wonderful to see the film being accepted all over."

The film opened on a slow note but went on to show an escalation over the weekend. "I hope it stays on like this. I am sure once Jodhaa Akbar euphoria settles down next week; there would be space for Mithya too to continue making an impression. After all, there are no notable releases over next so many weeks. That should work in favor of Mithya,” signs off Ranvir.
