"De Taali has a lot more variety than Cash" - Riteish Deshmukh

Riteish Deshmukh agrees that the music of his Cash was fantabulous. However, he feels that De Taali, his upcoming release, brings in a lot more variety in its soundtrack.
"Vishal-Shekhar came up with a rocking score in Cash, no doubt about that", says Riteish Deshmukh, "In fact if the movie would have done better, the music would have been far-far bigger. Each and every song out there was an item hit in the making. However, they have come up with quite an interesting array of tracks in De Taali."
Elaborating further on the music of De Taali, Riteish adds, "In Cash, the idea was to have each of the songs as a dance number which meant that the sound had to be consistent. On the other hand De Taali has much more happening in terms of variety since there is everything from an item song (Everybody Put Your Hands Together) to a track about friendship (De Taali) to love songs (Aaj Main Boond Hoon, Hone Lagi, Tooti Phooti) to a folk-fusion-mix (Maari Teetri)."
This time around the music has strong R.D. Burman influence as well. While Riteish nods in agreement, Vishal Dadlani explains, "That's true. Shekhar and me have always been a great fan of R.D. Burman and in De Taali we did get an opportunity to place a few love songs in the same mould. There have been some particular sound references that we have taken from Pancham da's music of the 70s."
Incidentally, De Taali came on floors quite some time back and it has taken the film almost 2 years to reach the finishing line. Produced by Ravi Walia and directed by Eshwar Niwas, the film went through its own casting flip-flops with Amrita Rao, Koena Mitra and Lara Dutta being considered as the leading ladies before Ayesha Takia and Rimmi Sen were finalized.
In fact, the film was earlier titled Jalsa but was later changed to De Taali since the two words form the part of lyrics of two songs in the film. As per Niwas, the change was also made because De Taali was quite a youthful title and went with the theme of the film.
