THE FILM
One actually feels sad with the way the saga of Anamika culminates. Reasons are many.
First and foremost is the conviction that the lead protagonists show while enacting their parts. Both Dino Morea and Minissha Lamba play their parts perfectly fine and give a good account of them.
Secondly, Mahadevan's direction is quiet tout for most of the film's duration. His forte is in filming dramatic and thrilling moments and in Anamika, it is the former which holds center stage. There may not be many spine chilling moments (the film has it's plot revolving around a lady - Anamika - who is dead but continues to rule the hearts of everyone in Gajner (in Rajasthan) where the story is set) but the suspense factor works for most part of the film's duration.
It is towards the ending reels that one gets a strong sense of deja vu. In fact, it won't be wrong to say that the entire climax is straight out of Bobby Deol, Kajol and Manisha Koirala starrer Gupt.
In fact, one longs for a twist in the tale especially with the way Gulshan Grover (a senior cop) suspiciously looks around for the real cause of Anamika's death. He taunts Minissha, now the second wife of Dino, grills Dino, has dissent for everything that goes in the empire built in Gajner and adds on to the mystery. Ok, so Vishwajeet Pradhan's 'paagal guide baba' act is comic more than convincing but Koena Mitra's dusky presence (and husky voice) doesn't harm the intriguing mood of Gajner.
It's just that after a good initial setup of around 80-90 minutes, some kind of restlessness starts setting in. The talks of 'Anamika aisi thi, Anamika waisi thi' becomes a little too much and one tends to exclaim - 'Ab mudde ki baat karen?' A shocker is on the way as well with the arrival of a sandstorm (filmed quite well) but what follows from there on brings 'Anamika' to a lame end.
Sad, because Dino Morea is continuing to do well even in his flops like Bhram and now Anamika.
Sad because Minissha not just looks pretty but also gets a good role to sink her teeth in.
Sad because it is ages after Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena that Koena Mitra has something better to do than just dance.
Sad because all that director Anant Mahadevan now needs is a convincing story to direct!

CONCLUSION
'Missed opportunity' - This is what one exclaims close to 15 minutes before Anamika comes to an end. That's because by that time you realize that this Anant Narayan Mahadevan film isn't exactly treading an unknown path and is in fact en route to a predictable climax. What a pity since the story seemingly had so much potential to twist the climax in any kind of ways that the writer or director would have wanted.
