Chak De! India is the basic, every-single-sports-movie story of a disgraced player, here called Kabir Khan, pulling together a team of misfits to do the impossible -- here winning the World Championship.

Chak De India directed by Shimit Amin (Ab Tak Chapan) and produced by Aditya Chopra (Yash Raj Films) is about an ex Indian Hockey team captain's return as the Coach to the Indian Women's National Hockey team and his fight in making team India a strong and indomitable team.

Chak De India deserves to be a hit in true aspects of technical proficiency. The film presents an exciting perspective on a simple plot, with a dose of laughs and shudders.

The team is a bunch of girls from all corners of India, and all of them have their own agenda. These girls have forgotten what it's like to play for the team, and more importantly what it's like playing for their country-India.

Shah Rukh Khan carries off the film effortlessly on his well worked-out shoulders, damning, and sometimes pushing his wards against the wall with his grueling training techniques.

Chak De India is an out-n-out sports based film. The film is to remind India of its national sport. The story revolves around the coach Kabir Khan's struggle to take the Indian Women's National Hockey to the top league.

Shah Rukh Khan is exceptional. He is not your typical SRK in this one. Right from the look he carries in his eyes to his body language to the sarcasm laid dialogues he mouths, he delivers a knockout performance...

First a brilliant comedy and comment on the cultural divide and diversity of India. Second, a strong perspective on team and attitude building. Third, a sharp look at the way all largely 'unsponsored' sports, besides cricket, are run in this country...

And that leaves us to talk about Shah Rukh Khan who I must admit I haven't been the biggest fan of because I'm often bored by the films he chooses. But for the first time since Swades, Shah Rukh plays a role without any of his typical trappings, without any of his trademark quirks.

'Chak De India' is not just a sports film. It is replete with myriad emotions. And the best part is that Shimit Amin tells the story very realistically, making it all the more believable. He also doesn't bring any unnecessary dramatization into the story.

The entire first half is concentrated on establishing all the characters in Hockey team and then inculcating the sense of belongingness among the team members. The second half is more entertaining with nice twists and engaging games...

Great performances by a bunch of unknowns, a gritty pace and a marvellous restraint make Chakde India an unbridled ode to patriotism without any hysterical chest-beating. And yes, for all you SRK fans and bashers, this time the verdict gotta be unanimous: Chakde Shah Rukh! Can you better this?

When the entire audience is rooting for a women's hockey team for 150 minutes straight, you know the movie has worked. The movie certainly achieved its aim of drawing attention to our national sport and especially to the plight of the women in this sport. It invoked the national spirit, made us whistle and cheer, clap hard, and laugh out loud...

Yash Raj Films deserve a bow! And also Shimit Amin. And also Shahrukh Khan. And each of the 16 girls who make sure that more than her, the character comes first and gets noticed by one and all. The film will truly go down as one of the most prestigious, meaningful and wholesome affair from Yash Raj Films who prove yet again that why they continue to be numero uno in the business.

Overall, Aditya Chopra and Shimit Amin have led their team to victory. Chak De India has all the right aspects to make you look at your tricolour flag with a sense of pride. Even if you are not an Indian, the sheer idea of the triumph of the human spirit will appeal to you.

Shah Rukh Khan is outstanding – it's a performance that is comparable and at points even more internalised than the one in Swades. He carries the proverbial burden of the project on his shoulders. Intense and steel-like, he stays in character throughout, shunning any traces of glamour.

Chak De India is quite heavy on patriotism; Yash Raj has timed it release well, just prior to Independence Day. Watch it for its nationalism. Or SRK. Or hockey. Just watch it.

So even if you're a non-SRK fan, you gotta go 'n see the guy perform. And if you still remain unconvinced, just tell me one actor who would have dared to risk a script which has no usual B-masala. The man knows his job and understands his strength!

The film has the production values and gloss expected of a Yashraj Films production, but director Shimit Amin still manages to give the film a homespun charm. This is a good second from the director of Ab tak Chappan.

'Chak De India' is a sincere effort and it is really nice to see such well made experimental films being tried. One hitch could be the film might not appeal to the lovers of typical Bollywood masala potboilers and can remained confined in the niche audience category, being apreciated by people who have it in them to praise such novel efforts.

This is perhaps the first film since Ashutosh Gowariker's Swades where Khan truly portrays a character (even if largely undefined beyond his given profession). He is Kabir Khan, a former India captain, fallen from grace...

The film begins well and establishes its intentions in the first reel itself. It's clearly all about loving the game. Although one would've liked to see a little more of Kabeer and the team's background, the director makes up for it with his inspiring narrative...

The back-stories of the girls needed more fleshing out perhaps, instead of the inordinate amount given to the world cup matches. The tribal girls from Jharkhand for instance-how did they even get this far? More about the relationships and rivalries between the girls, would have also made a difference to the otherwise conventional story...

'Chak De India' falters at many points. To start with, its music fails to generate any kind of curiosity among masses. But I can not blame Salim Suleiman for it because they got to compose the music once the movie was over; whatever they could do they have done on the edit table.

Against that is the fact that it is all about women’s hockey, still more hockey and then some more till the adrenaline stops flowing. There is no entertainment at all, no romantic moments, no songs and at 17 reels is many of them too long.
