While Contract may not be as good as Company and Satya, it is a compelling and engrossing watch. You need to pay attention to all the double crossing, to understand the movie. The background score is particularly good and the songs are catchy too, even the item song Rabba Khair kare is not incongruous...

Contract makes tall claims of exploring the nexus between the underworld and terrorism (the most likely match, so where's the surprise?), but there's very little scratching under the surface. It's actually just a well-made thriller...

The film lacks the detailing of his previous efforts and one gets a feeling Varma bit more than he could chew by trying to bridge underworld and militancy. In fact, the whole terrorism angle actually takes a backseat as the film goes into the Company mode...

The movie is full of all the trappings of a usual RGV gangster drama. It has shabby-looking, trigger-happy criminals and inside informants engaged in a war between rival gangs. It has a protagonist who utters a wisecrack whenever he opens his mouth, and leaves a trail of blood whenever attacked by rivals...

The dialogues in the film are fine. But the screenplay is what lets you down. You always keep feeling that the film didn't reach its climax.
One annoying factor about the film is that most of it seems to have been shot in extreme close ups – lips to eyes...

Contract is essentially about a war between two underworld gangs. He tries his best to relate the two -- the second half may even take you back to the serial train blasts two years ago -- but RGV is on familiar ground...

Primarily the film is such a drab leaving you nowhere. Majority of the sequences and occurrences in the film make you wonder whether it has really been done by Ramgopal Varma or one of his so called 'chelas'...
