Expect Govinda to do the unexpected and you will be
disappointed. That's because our virar-ka-chora leads
a tried and tested path - PURE ENTERTAINMENT. And
what's the harm in it when it pays dividends -
although not as rich as it is used to be during the
90s when his winning streak of Shola Aur Shabnam,
Aankhen, Raja Babu, Saajan Chale Sasural, Coolie No.
1, Hero No. 1, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Dulhe Raja etc
etc was stupendous. Though the consistency level has
fallen down a bit since Y2K onwards, he still comes up
with something like a Jodi No. 1 to keep himself
sailing. And it is not exactly him to be blamed as in
past few months we have seen his innumerous films like
Khullam Khulla Pyaar Kare, Ankhiyon Se Goli Maare,
Pyaar Deewana Hota Hai, Waah Tera Kya Kehna etc lying
in the cans. And this is the reason that when a film
like Chalo Ishq Ladaye gets ready for a release, no
one knows that whether it is a fresh project or one of
his old flicks.
In CIL, Govinda pairs up with Rani who
gave a hit with him in Hadh Kar Di Apne and a super
flop - Pyaa Deewana Hota Hai. Ajiz Sejawal who has
earlier given a hilarious Hero Hindustani and a dud -
Sanam directs this comedy which is produced by Vijay
Mehta. Himesh Reshammiya, fresh after the success of
Humraaz and Kya Dil Ne Kaha composes and Sameer
writes.
Himesh Reshammiya too does the same for this and
doesn't scratch his head too much for this flick as
anyway one is not expecting a chartbuster out of CIL.
So here we go with some readymade tunes, put in some
bhelpuri songs like 'Aa Pyaa Kare Bindaas' and 'Pyaar
Ka Funda' where the lyrics are heard to be believed
and make Govinda play to the gallery. Hear to these
two songs and you will get to listen to everything
from a cold drink to pizza to TV and even the girl
friend to be a total TIMEPASS. Is this is the respect
you and me are going to give to our girlfriend - this
is a question, which really needs to be answered. Sonu
Nigam renders both the numbers and majorly tries to
imitate Govinda, at least in the former (and fails
!!!) Sonu dear, we really love you the way you sing -
please stick to that. Kavita Krishnamurthy too chips
in 'Pyaar Ka Funda' which even speaks about - Ye Dil
Maange More !!! Whooooosh !!
CIL is about plain masti, which is conveyed literally
by Sonu Nigam and Alka Yagnik in 'Masti Masti'. A
really 'mast' number, it is entertaining with good
choreography (Govinda ishtyle !!!) and tempting Rani.
Remix (as the trend goes today !!) is also available
for the same but the original is much more effective.
The same pair sings the title number. An OK number -
it doesn't disappoint, though one always tends to
expect more from a title song.
Sonu Nigam and Alka Yagnik return again with 'Tujhko
Hi Dulhan Banaonga' which is a ched-chad song in the
midst of a family celebration - a kinda number that
would have fitted even in Shahrukh or a Hrithik
starrer. But pity because inspite of it being a catchy
number, it may not go some distance. Primarily because
the lavish production values of a Khan or a Roshan
starrer may be missing in it. Nevertheless an
entertaining song that can be certainly singled out.
Another version of the same song is 'Pota Ko Dulha
Banaaongi' between the 'Dadi' and 'Pota' played by
Zohra Sehgal and Govinda respectively.
CIL doesn't have to do anything with sentibaazi,
emotion baazi, rona dhona etc etc. it has the kind of
music famous in David Dhawan movies
Music of films starring Govinda like CIL are a delight
for a music reviewer:
1) They are catchy
2) They are predictable
3) One doesn't have to listen again and again to the
album to gain an idea about the intricacies of the
music score as they are at best "TIME PASS'
