  Music Reviews
By Joginder Tuteja, January 20, 2005 - 17:30 IST

Dreams ' by Aashish Chanana is one of those productions that is not much known within the film fraternity. But the good part about the movie is that it is having at least an average publicity on the music front. Starring Aashish Chanana, Neha Pendse, Arzoo Govitrikar and Manoj Bidwani in the lead roles, ' Dreams ' has music by Sajid Wajid, Arun Kerkar and Merlin D'souza.

Sajid Wajid invade the Jatin Lalit territory in the opening number ' Jaane Kahan '. With a feel on the lines of ' Ruk Ja O Dil Deewane ' (DDLJ) and ' Deewana Main Chala ' (Pyaar Kiya To Darna Ka), it is well written number by Jalees Rashid. Kumar Sanu too is in vintage form and the melodious number turns out to be quite hummable in the end. ' Part II ' of the same number makes an appearance after a few tracks and the good part is that it is not a mandatory sad version of the original. Instead it is a wee-bit slow track than the original and this effect is primarily due to the usage of a few lesser instruments. Yes, the theme of the number does depict sadness but then it is not because of the intentional slow down of the rendition as in conventional sad tracks.

Babul Supriyo and Anuradha Paudwal get together for the cozy romantic track ' Nazar Ne Nazar Ko ' that is one of those 'less effort-good returns' kind of a conventional Bollywood love song. Written by Jalees Rashid, the number is good while it lasts. Fourth and the last number by Jalees Rashid is the mandatory one by Sunidhi Chauhan in the form of ' Kaise Kate '. A number that gives the sense of seduction and passion, it makes the album nosedive after a couple of good and an average number. After all how many more times do you really want to listen to something that goes as ' Sholon Badan Hoon Main Aag Hoon, Tere Labon Ki Main Pyaas Hoon '?

' Na Jaane Kyun ' by Abhijeet and Sneha Pant is on the lines of ' Main Hoon ' by Shankar Ehsaan Loy from ' Kyun Ho Gaya Naa '. A racy fun track, it also borrows its inspiration from Jatin Lalit brand of music. Overall a fine love song number written by Ajay Jhingran, it keeps one engaged during its duration. If only the song would have been in a biggie, the promotion would already have begun on an aggressive note as it has an appeal to be a Top-20 material.

The album continues to make an upward journey with the soothing solo ' Dil Ki Dhadkan ' by Kavita Krishnamurthy that has music by Arun Kerkar. Good lyrics complimented by experienced vocals and fine composition make for a nice song that fall under the RD Burman brand of music. And this should be taken as a compliment by Sajid Wajid as they manage to match such high standards.

' Duniya Tere Bazaar Mein ' by Pankaj Udhas is a retrospective song about the pros and cons of fame, money and respect and what it does to love and life! Sung by Pankaj Udhas, it is another good composition by Arun Kerkar that would be liked by the Ghazal and soft music lovers.

Shaan makes a belated appearance with ' Sapne Sach Honge ' that sounds so much similar to an ad campaign/TV serial title number. Nevertheless, this philosophical number by composer Merlin D'souza about dreaming and living life to let the dreams come true is an average hearing and doesn't really bore you off. Ironically the track ' Opening Titles ', a short fusion by Merlin D'souza that is being used during the roll of titles comes as the last number in the album. It has the undertones of the earlier song ' Sapne Sach Honge '.

For a movie with an unknown banner, new starcast and limited appeal, ' Dreams ' can boast of some fine music due to some good work by the composers. A few quality tunes and other average ones, ' Dreams ' can be given an ear for some time at least.
