  Music Reviews

Season of comedies continues with Antara Mali's 'Mr. Ya Miss' that is co-directed by Satchit Puranik. A 'rib tickling comedy', as the makers choose to call it, 'Mr.Ya Miss' is a fantasy tale that also stars 'Masti' pairing of Aftab Shivdasani and Riteish Deshmukh and promises to carry on the 'masti' on screen. In films belonging to this genre, music is generally peppy and youthful with loads of fun and frolic. Let's hear the songs put to tune by Ntin Raikwar to know if this holds good in the case of Mr. Ya Miss.

A war of sexes happen when Shibani Kashyap and Sonu Nigam come up with their respective solos that boast about the plus sides of being a woman and a man respectively. A track set in the rock mode, 'Fakr Hai - Aurat' is a song that has Shibani giving a punching feel to it through her vocals. But there is as much as she can do as the tune combined with the musical arrangements for this Raikwar written song finds itself in an average category after a first couple of minutes.

The male version of the song that appears as 'Fakr Hai - Aadmi' is an entertaining number though with an attitude to match by Sonu Nigam. A smooth sailing track that is sung with a lot of style by Sonu, it has some good lyrics by Raikwar and makes the proceedings interesting!

Some nice 'RGV style' humor comes in the form of a 70s style Rishi Kapoor brand of romantic number 'Kamsin Kali'. A number with a definite vintage feel to it, it has all that is required for such songs. Thodi masti, thodi ched-chaad and a lot of giggles! A song that appears to be a dream sequence and should bring a smile on your face when it is on in the movie, it could well be 'Woh Ladki Hai Kahan' [Dil Chahta Hai] of 'Mr Ya Miss'. While Vinod Rathod is all romantic and in a great mood while singing the track, Shibani Kashyap gives a much required effect through her accented singing. Mona Sarkar too is credited for the song and she is probably there for the giggles!

A pop number follows next that goes as 'Jeena Jeena'. Through its lyrics by Ntin Raikwar, it is quite apparent that the song tells the tale of the lead character in the movie who had a 'sex' change after divine intervention and is now trying to be content with the way (s)he has to live life from hereon. Shibani Kashyap, just like the songs before this, comes behind the mike once again and comes up with a good rendition. A situational song that is pleasant on ears without turning too loud.

Ronkini Gupta is the guest composer for the final song 'Kaanha Kaanha'. The number comes as a complete surprise in the beginning as it is a shift from the pop tracks that had come earlier but on hearing closely, one can sense that it could well have an element of humor in the movie's narrative as at places it describes the plight of being a woman. Very well written by Satchit Puranik, it has Sonu Nigam coming up with the best sung song in the entire album. A beautiful composition that makes for an extremely pleasant hearing experience!

'Mr. Ya Miss' is an album that is primarily made of situational songs but each of them does make you hear it along when it is played. The tunes are a bit unconventional and hence keep you interested in what's going to come next. The album may not sell like hot cakes at the music stands but the songs are fine enough to make a good impact when presented with visuals in the movie.
