Trust 2005 to come up with a variety of subjects at a pleasantly surprising pace! High society [Page 3], high spirits [Black, Iqbal], historical [Mangal Pandey], period drama [Parineeta] - you name it and 2005 has got it for you. Now get set for a light hearted entertainer cum love story of a middle aged couple who meet, fall in love and decide to live together forever. So what's the 'twist' here? Well 'pyaar mein twist' is the fact that they themselves are parents of a young boy and a girl respectively. A movie that raises the question [albeit revolving around good dose of humor] about the rights and freedom of a spirited couple to fall in love and think about the remainder of their lives, PMT is the second outing for Hriday Shetty after his action comedy 'Plan'. A Percept Picture Company and Sahara One Motion Pictures production, PMT stars Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia as the lead protagonists with Sameer Dattani [Uff Kya Jadoo Mohabbat Hai] and Soha Ali Khan. With music and lyrics by Jatin Lalit and Sameer, one expects a fairly good soundtrack.
First song in the list is 'Pal Tham Gaya', which was incidentally the original title of the movie that was later rechristened as 'Pyaar Mein Twist'. With an extremely sober and heartwarming beginning, this melodious love duet is sung by Abhijeet and Alka Yagnik and is typically Jatin Lalit from the very first note. Abhijeet is in his complete elements here and sings with his trademark ice-chill effect. The song deserves to be promoted well in order to reach out to wider audience and it comes as a surprise that it hasn't been aired yet on the small screen. Nevertheless a good song that facilitates a good beginning for the movie's soundtrack!
Babul Supriyo's sings 'Do Dil' with Shreya Ghoshal as his partner. Yet another track carrying a distinct Jatin Lalit stamp all over it, it is about two lovers deeply in love and expressing their joy. A moderately paced track with good base of melody, it is another good song in succession. The music is of the kind that has given Jatin Lalit a much deserved recognition for all these years and is hence likeable once again.
Conversations between warring sexes are in vogue. You have already enjoyed 'Ladki Kyon' [Hum Tum] and 'My Dil Goes Mmmm' [Salaam Namaste] belonging to the same genre. Now get set for a third song in succession that is based on the same theme - 'Dhui Rappa – Ladki Chahe Jo Bole'. Undoubtedly the best song in the entire soundtrack in the movie, 'Dhui Rappa' [that has accompanying beats straight out of 'Banke Tera Jogi' from 'Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani' - again by Jatin Lalit] it is a frothy track sung quite well in the youthful vocals of Sonu Nigam and Sunidhi Chauhan. With plain and simple lyrics by Sameer given a feel good tune by Jatin Lalit, the song has all the potential to be popular.
In fact the only number that is being publicized currently comes up only in the end. The number in question? Evergreen 'Khullam Khulla Pyaar Karenge' from Rishi Kapoor's own 'Khel Khel Mein', that appears in its two remix 'avtars' - 'Khullam Khulla (remixed) ' and 'Khullam Khulla (Club remix) '. A pleasant surprise indeed, there is an obvious nostalgia to hear Vinod Rathod, Babul Supriyo and even Rishi Kapoor coming behind the mike. The original essence of this beautiful love song has been thankfully retained well with the remix not causing any distraction whatsoever. In fact both Vinod Rathod and Babul Supriyo do not let the great Kishore Kumar down and sing the song with great conviction. A song that brings a smile on your face as soon as it is played, even the picturization of the song [featuring Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia in a party scene] gets you nostalgic with vintage Rishi Kapoor dancing style. Since Rishi-Dimple 'jodi' is considered as the USP of the movie, it could be the prime reason of sidelining all other actors in the movie and concentrating only on the lead pair.
'Pyaar Mein Twist' is primarily a youthful album with melody-centric songs. As in majority of cases, Jatin Lalit come up with a likeable score once again. Now what is the need of the hour is some active promotion around the movie's music in addition to the short teasers currently on air.
