This album has everything! It has your club songs, your Bollywood masala songs, your pop songs, and even a masti song.
Aahista Aahista is my favorite song! It has a club song feel to it but what really hits is the intermixing of the two distinct voices (one of the male's and the other of the female's). When both sing together but different verses, it clicks. It is what makes the song so good and it reminds one of the oldie - "Jab Andhera Hota Hai Aadhi Raat Sadak Pe". In that too R.D. Burman and Aasha Bhonsle sang different verses in opposite pitches simutaneously. Giving a similar effect to Aahista Aahista - Vishal Shekhar create a winner.
Jogi Mahi. This is a song you would normally see come from Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. It is similar to the Salaam-E-Ishq/Mahi Ve/Nihaal Ho Gayi/Jhoom(Amitabh Bachchan version) type song. But due to its different melody, this song is also very good. The refrain eventually grows on one and is something one wants to listen over and over again. It is probably why the refrain is repeated over and over again in the end. I like this song for its traditional-like melody on the backdrop of electric guitar periodical jams.
Bachchna Ae Haseeno. Not much to say here. It is the original song from Hum Kisise Kum Nahin and the original was great so therefore this one is also. The two parts which stand out are how Vishal-Shekhar supplemented the trumpet signature of this song with a voice and lyrics and how they give a beatuiful latin feel to the song to it. It gives the song a freshness and is fun to hear even though some people who are devoted to purely original may reject it.
Khuda Jaane. Great slow beat, excellent lyrics, and the way K.K. voices vibrantly the words "Khuda Jaane" give the song all the feel it needed. I have thought hard about this song being similar to some other slow song of the near future. Nothing comes to mind and therefore I claim it as a good melody and an original melody! 5-star rating for this song.
Lucky Boy - This motown/club song has a hip hop feel to it complemented by the bursts of punjabi lyrics and woman's ghostly/flute-like voice. I believe Sunidhi Chauhan is behind the mike for this one. What may be a downside for this song is that the melody is not all that special. What they have attempted to do in this track has been done before. This just has different notes and lyrics - but the type of song is the same.
Small Town Girl - I am remembering Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy again. This time things like Pretty Woman/Ticket to Hollywood/Kiss of Love/Jhoom(Amitabh Bachchan's version) come into mind. Synthetic sounds/Electric guitars jazz up the rough traditional voice that vocalizes the words. Its a good song - wouldn't call it amazing. But I would not be surprised if I hear people really appreciating this song.
All I have to say is - if you want to be entertained: Buy this album. You will not regret it.
