Finally, Sharmila, Saif in one film

A number of producers tried teaming real-life mother and son, Sharmila Tagore and Saif Ali Khan, in their films. Recently too, Mahesh Manjrekar was keen to have Saif enact the role of Amitabh and Sharmila’s son in VIRUDDH, but Saif turned down the offer due to date problems. John Abraham stepped in eventually.
Now, Vidhu Vinod Chopra has finally done what others couldn’t. While Saif had already been cast in his forthcoming venture EKLAVYA, Sharmila’s signing was kept one big secret by the makers of the film. For moviegoers, watching the real-life mother and son on screen will indeed be a treat.
Incidentally, the title of EKLAVYA has been modified. It’s now EKLAVYA – THE ROYAL GUARD. The shooting of the film has been completed and the film is slated for release in the second quarter of 2006.
