Why '36' before 'China Town'? Click here to add this article to My Clips

By Taran Adarsh, June 28, 2005 - 02:38 IST

Till last week, Subhash Ghai and director duo Abbas-Mustan were keen to call their Akshaye Khanna-Shahid Kapoor-Kareena Kapoor starrer CHINA TOWN. But days before the launch of this thriller, Ghai decided to add 36 before the title and call the film 36 CHINA TOWN. What prompted the film-makers to change the title, albeit slightly?

"Two reasons," Ghai informs me, "One, the rights to the title vest with Shakti Samanta. He wasn't too keen on relinquishing it. The second reason being, the number 36, which totals to 9, is lucky for us. Besides, the new title goes well with the story of the film."

While 36 CHINA TOWN was launched on June 25, Ghai's own project will be announced in October this year. Sources close to Ghai inform us that the Showman is in negotiations with one of the Khans. Mr. Ghai, is it true?
