Now call it anything, but it always happens with Bhatts before the release of their movies. Controversies that unintentionally turn out to be quite beneficial for their films! Their first release of 2006 Gangster has come in news when real life gangster Abu Salem served Mahesh Bhatt a legal notice asking him to destroy the prints of the same film, which is based on Salem’s life. Interestingly Salem is currently in police custody and has sent the notice from behind bars through his lawyer.

A close associate to Mahesh Bhatt said, “It is ironic that a man who has bypassed law for everything and has harassed the film industry for years, is now using the law to harass the film industry”. Talking about allegations of Gangster being similar to the life story of Abu Salem, the source clarifies, “Gangster is the story of an underworld character who falls in love with a bar girl and puts his life at stake to keep her with him. It is a triangular love story starring Shiny, Kangna and Emran Hashmi. Tell me, where is a triangular love story in Salem’s life?”

“Gangster can be the story of any underworld don. Every gangster ends his life either because of his girlfriend or god. So why should Abu Salem take it personally”, adds the source.

Even script writer Mahesh Bhatt has denied allegations and explained that his story is a work of pure fiction and there is no resemblance of any kind to any living or dead character. According to him Gangster is not a story of the underworld, but of the human heart in conflict with itself. Bhatt will be appearing before the TADA court today for the hearing on this case.
