Mira versus Deepa!

With the Academy Awards slated for 25th February, the theatrical release of WATER in India, which was slated for 23rd February, has been shifted by one month. “Deepa Mehta will be busy with the Oscars [WATER is nominated in the Best Foreign Language Film category] and will have no time to promote WATER in India. Hence, it has been decided to release the film on 23rd March,” a source connected to the film tells me.
Not 23rd February, but 23rd March -- that’s the date with WATER in India.
With Mira Nair’s THE NAMESAKE and Deepa Mehta’s WATER releasing on the same date [23rd March], the week will witness a clash of two lady-directors who’ve carved a niche for themselves in the international market.
