Chancing upon a life as a drifter and a con man, Sameer Khanate (Mashhoor Amrohi) makes his way to Singapore and lands a job working as a 'Recovery agent' for Gary Rosario (Jackie Shroff), an underground racketeer of night clubs.

Earning his livelihood by masquerading and cheating people of their money, Sameer's life takes a tumble when his own brother finds himself in need of financial help. With his Boss - Gary Rosario refusing to help him out, Sameer is left with no viable option. He comes up with a vicious plan of kidnapping the daughter of a multimillionaire super star actor, Gyaneshwar Singh (Shehzad Khan) in order to solve his financial crunch.

In his quest to relieve himself of his unavoidable misery, he promises Esha a world of dreams and leads her into believing that they are soul mates. What Sameer doesn't realize is that destiny has different plans for him, as he succumbs to the temptation of Gyaneshwar Singh's daughter Esha's (Vishakha Singh) beauty, and falls head over heels for her. He takes her off to a romantic weekend on Sentosa Island, with the dual motive of spending some quality time with his newfound love and getting her away from her dad and asking him for a ransom. Seeing a beautiful possibility of living a life full of happiness with Sameer, Esha also agrees to elope with Sameer.

The repercussions of this are tremendous and never thought of, as Gyaneshwar Singh is led to believe (by Sameer and his accomplice/best friend) that she has been kidnapped. This revelation forces him to make one phone call to his best friend, Gary Rosario, who promises Gyaneshwar that his daughter will be back safe and sound and that he will appoint his best man to rescue Esha. The man for the job is none other than Sameer Khanna (the guy who kidnapped her in the first place).

Further complications arise when Sameer gets involved in a drug deal, and in the process loses Esha to a gang of drug lords Dabar (Mukesh Rishi) and Pran Panwara (Kiran Kumar) who ask Sameer to comply with their horrendous demands in return for her life. Sameer now has to get Esha from the unscrupulous hands of Dabar and Pran Panwara while pretending to never ever have met Esha for his life to be spared in front of Gary Rosario and make all well with his finances. There is just one problem, circumstances and fate have revealed the reality of Sameer in front of Esha and she has no plans of letting him off the hook so easily, even if it means letting everyone think she's dead. Esha wants payback with Sameer while the whole world is gunning him down with Esha's presumed death. A friendship begging for generosity, a love screaming from betrayal and pride waiting to be awakened, Hum Sey Hai Jahaan is a rollercoaster ride that will jolt your senses to laughter and entertainment and will leave you asking for more...

Lord Vishnu is regarded as the Supreme Being, protecting the Gods as well as mortals like us, from evil; and he has done so by incarnating in ten avatars -

Matsya, Kurm, Varaha, Narsimha, Parshuram, Vaman, Ram, Krishna, Gautam Buddha, and Kalki.

The larger-than-life saga hurtles through a sequence of heroic exploits of the various avatars of Lord Vishnu and is packed with action, drama and adventure. Dashavatar explores the origin and the dynamism of each of these avatars, woven into an interesting narrative. It promises to be a magnum opus with a superlative quality of animation, voices of many acclaimed actors and mellifluous music. Dashavatar has a fascinating story telling pattern in which the old world sensitivities would appeal to the modern mind.

Abhishek is the heir to the Aggarwal Industries group and son of an extremely indulgent father. While he isn't too interested in working or even showing up in his office, he does keep himself busy by constantly falling deeply and genuinely in love - with the wrong women. It is this very trait of his which his childhood friends, Amrita and Paglu find endearing & simultaneously try and protect him from.

Amrita has always supported Abhishek no matter what he did. Unknown to her, she is in love with Abhishek, but if anyone suggests the possibility to her, she dismisses it lightly saying, “But we're just friends.” An answer that Paglu, the third in this extremely close-knit trio, doesn't believe.

Paglu is the planner in the group, even though not all his plans are extremely well thought out. However, what he lacks in foresight, he makes up in sheer enthusiasm. Unfortunately, not all of his plans are entirely legitimate, something that Amrita keeps pointing out

The story is set in Singapore. Probably, it explains the reason why the three of them, all of Indian origin, remain together in a closely knit group in spite of their differences. It also explains the reason for the various character traits of the three young people as the story progresses in the scenic beauty of Singapore.

The story begins one evening when Paglu, following another one of his harebrained schemes, plans a vacation of 'shark riding' with Abhishek and Amrita. Despite the obvious dangers that Amrita points out, nobody is able to say no in the face of Paglu's enthusiasm.

The next day, Abhi informs them that he can't go with them because he is once again 'in love.' The lucky girl's name is Sara, and she is an expert in Feng Shui. When they go to meet Sara however, it becomes very clear to Paglu and Amrita that despite his conviction, this time too Abhi has found the wrong woman.

Sure enough they are proven right when Abhi calls them a few days later and tells them a heart-breaking story of how Sara had unceremoniously dumped him at the restaurant for some ridiculous reason. While Amrita makes all the sympathetic noises and tries to make him feel better, Paglu is bored by the usual break up story and determines that he will have to find Abhi a nice girl, so that he never has to hear another break-up story again. Watching Amrita and Abhi together, and their natural affection for each other, he realizes that the perfect girl for Abhi is Amrita.

However when he suggests this to Amrita, she laughs at him and says, “Don't be silly, we're just friends.” But the idea slowly takes root in Amrita mind.
Encouraged by the fondness that Abhi's father has for her, and vague hints dropped by Abhi himself, Amrita lets her deep-rooted feelings for Abhi come to the fore-front and lets herself fall in love with him.

On the day that Abhi says he will tell his friends who he is in love with, there is a party at his house. Amrita and Paglu are both excited about the fact that Abhi will declare his love for her. Soon the time comes for Abhi to speak, and Abhi introduces Kartika, a stunning beauty, as his girlfriend. Amrita is heart-broken as she realizes that she had based all her love on misleading hints, but also realizes that she will never be able to go back to 'just being friends' with Abhi.

Paglu in the meanwhile is shocked. He dislikes Kartika immediately, and convinces Amrita to fight for Abhi. He says, “You have as much a right to be with Abhi as she does.” When she says that she doesn't know how, Paglu has a plan that will make Abhi sit up and take notice. But each time, their plan backfires when Kartika shows up with Abhi. Ironically, everyone likes Kartika, including Amrita's mom! Finally Paglu says that the plan has to be made grander; they have to throw a surprise birthday party for Abhi.

So while Amrita makes all the arrangements for the party at the office, Paglu goes to Kartika's office and invites her to the same party, but to Amrita's House, Sure that this will be enough to keep her out of the way while Amrita wins Abhi's love, he throws himself completely into the preparations. But when the time comes, Abhi doesn't show up. They wait till midnight, until they realize that Abhi is not going to show up that night.

The next day however, Abhi tells them that he had every intention of coming but Kartika had already planned a birthday outing for him and he didn't want to disappoint her. So they had both taken off to another city to celebrate. Paglu and Amrita now realize that Kartika had deliberately destroyed their plans. They barge into her office to confront her, and are shocked to find, not the sweet charming Kartika they had met, but a cold and calculating woman who clearly was with Abhi only for his money.

But when they try to warn Abhi, he turns against Paglu and Amrita, saying that Kartika had warned him that they would try to turn him against her, and is shocked to see how low they had stooped. Leaving them slack-jawed, he storms out of their regular bar. The next day when Amrita calls Abhi to clear the air, he stuns her by saying that he has already made plans to marry Kartika.

Paglu and Amrita are stunned but they realize that they can't allow this to happen as Kartika clearly doesn't love him. But when they go to the airport to reason with him, they run into Kartika and try to convince her. Paglu leads her towards his car, but she refuses to get in. In the scuffle she hits her head on the roof of the car and passes out.

When she regains consciousness, she is shocked to find herself at Paglu's house. She threatens them with kidnapping charges if they don't take her to the airport immediately. Paglu, completely irritated with her, ties her up and, as Amrita looks on speechless, says, “If you want to be kidnapped so much, here you go!”

Meanwhile Abhi is extremely agitated, thinking of the worst case scenario why Kartika wasn't there at the airport. He considers calling the hospitals and the police, which makes Paglu nervous. So he devises a simple plan; get Kartika to write Abhi a letter saying that she didn't love him and hence hadn't come to the airport. When Abhi reds this letter, he is completely heart-broken, and Amrita feels really bad for him.

Meanwhile, Paglu starts looking after Kartika, and discovers the logistics of looking after a kidnapped person. One day Kartika tells him to go to her house and pick up some clothes for her. When Paglu goes there and sees the things there, he realizes that nothing that Kartika had said was true - the paintings didn't belong to her dead mother, instead they belonged to another young artist; none of her papers - bank, driver's license, etc - were any older than two months. In fact, everything that they had believed about her was a lie!

Meanwhile, Amrita realizes that Abhi is taking this latest disaster very badly, that he has taken to drinking a lot of alcohol, and decides to do something to cheer him up. She makes a tape of all his ex-girlfriends, a hilarious story of all his wrong choices. At the end of the tape, everyone is laughing, and Abhi is struck by something about Amrita, something that surpasses friendship.

After that he can't get her out of his mind, and finally invites her to a solo dinner where he confesses to her that she has been on his mind a lot. He gets more and more drunk, and talks on about his hurt at being dumped by Kartika and how bad he'll feel if Amrita also left him, etc. Finally, he collapses in an alcoholic haze and Amrita is saddened by the state he is in. She tells him that she has always been in love with him and can't bear to see him in that state.

When Paglu comes by to help her put Abhi to sleep, he explains to her that everything isn't as it seems in Kartika's case. Amrita says that she wants to end this charade for Abhi's sake while Paglu convinces her to let him dig up something in Kartika's past, something that will prevent Kartika from going to the police when they let her go. Amrita agrees.

So Paglu starts off looking for clues in Kartika's past and soon unearths an amazing story. Kartika had run away from a strange home when she was very young. Her family was very happy to see the end of her, and it was obvious that there wasn't much love for her. Kartika had continued through life, using various men - be it her boyfriend in college or her professor - and each one had become completely besotted with her to the extent that when she left them, they would invariably console themselves with drink. A story, not quite unlike Abhishek's.

Meanwhile, Amrita goes to meet Abhi and finds him completely cured of his drinking, and taking an active interest in work. When she asks him how this happened, he confesses to her that her love for him made it possible for him to get better. Amrita is thrilled that her love story has finally started.

When Paglu tells her all that he had found out about Kartika, they decide to meet Abhi to tell him of all their discoveries. But when they get to Abhi's house, they find Kartika already there! They realize that she had escaped and told Abhi all about the kidnapping and Abhi is terribly hurt that his closest friends had lied to him for so long, let him suffer for so long, for their own selfish reasons. He refuses to listen to Amrita or to Paglu and tells them to get out of his life, as he was going to marry Kartika, come what may!

Amrita is shattered by how easily Abhi had ejected her out of his life. Meanwhile, as the preparations for the wedding continue, Abhi is torn about the choice he is making. Finally he speaks to his father who gives him a way of finding what is right for him. But Paglu is still not willing to let go. He gets a call from Kartika's mother with some news and he begs Amrita to reach Abhi's wedding with Kartika's ex-boyfriends while he will get there with another person.

When Amrita reaches the wedding, Abhi is shocked to see her. But more importantly, Kartika's ex-boyfriends are stunned to see Kartika. Amidst the confusion, Paglu lands up with another man - Kartika's husband!

All hell breaks loose when it becomes clear that Abhi will not be able to marry Kartika. But as he explains to Amrita and Paglu, he had already cancelled the wedding - because he loved Amrita. All's well that ends well, and Paglu, happy that his objective has been achieved goes home - to find Kartika there! The two of them, not knowing what to do next, but knowing that perhaps there is a bond between them, settle down in front of his TV, reluctant and yet curious to see what other adventures are coming their way.

Character Sketch:

Rajat Kapoor as Rahul is an ad film maker and a perfect family man. He and Mitali have been married for eight years now and they have a beautiful daughter that he dotes upon. Rahul is loyal to his friends, socially successful and charming. A single encounter with a mysterious woman changes a lot of things he would formerly assume as established facts about himself and his married life.

Iravati Harshe as Mitali is an intelligent modern urban woman and a professional sculptor. Married to a loving husband, Rahul, she gave up her career for her marriage and believes she has chosen well. She wants to work, but feels guilty about ignoring her husband and child. What happens at the party, the night before, could subvert the many truths of her life.

Dalip Tahil as Saxena is a middle aged writer who has had his moments of glory, fame and success. He is polished and articulate and has a penchant for philsophising. Some people say that he married for money. That could be true--but he is the life of every party, he is the intellectual that everyone wants to be with whereas Jolly is often the butt of many jokes.

Navneet Nishan as Jolly is Saxena's wife who has aspirations towards intellectuality and has a Mrs. Malaprop like predilection for impressing upon others by dishing out funny instances of her half baked knowledge. She is frivolous and gullible, flighty and loud but an endearing person despite her failings when she insists upon helping the people around her.

Anu Menon as Nandini is married to Amit. The strain in their relationship begins when she catches him watching porn. She sees it as an indication of a failure of their relationship. She hopes to talk about it to her friends, Jolly and Mitali.

Vinay Pathak as Amit is almost a prototype of the regular Indian male. He hides from his wife and watches porn, but is also clumsy enough not to cover his tracks. Through the film we see him as a character hoping to undo the damage and en passant, also provides a comic relief, because deep down he believes he hasn't really wronged Nandini and his apologies are both profuse and insincere.

Neha Dhupia as Sophia is the stereotypical femme fatale. An aspiring actor who holds everybody's attention at the party but remains distant and aloof. Her character is like a jigsaw puzzle in the film, which slowly unfolds through a series of interesting interactions with the men she meets.

Synopsis

The movie is a film about three couples and a keen observation on the modern day marriage.

Rahul wakes up with a bad hangover after a party the night before. There he had met a sexy young woman Sophia. They got drunk and there were sparks flying. But Rahul doesn't remember what happened after that. Did they...go all the way?

His wife, Mitali, is in a particularly bad mood and Rahul suspects that she might know about his little escapade last night. Rahul starts chasing his night - trying to retrieve it - trying to find out what really happened.

His friends Saxena and Amit are going through their own marital crisis of sorts. Driven to his wits end, he realizes that he must seek Sophia out to restore his sanity.

From the award winning director Ketan Mehta, we have a legendary tale of Raja Ravi Varma, India's pioneer painter. The film deals with the trajectory of his life and relationship with his muse, Sugandha. Nandana Sen as the muse radiates the passion of Randeep Hooda who plays Raja Ravi Varma.

The narrative begins in the middle of action, where an artist is arrested and charged with obscenity, immorality and hurting religious sentiments by painting nudes of Indian mythological characters. He is Raja Ravi Varma.

At a temple, he discovers the woman of his artistic imagination and dreams. She is Sugandha - the muse. Her beauty inspires him to create his now-famous paintings such as Saraswati with the Veena and also other nude paintings. Following which, he moves to materialize his seminal vision of freeing his art from the shackles of elite patronage. The conflict in the film emerges from the politics of his artistic vision.

"He painted the gods and she paid the price"
